Record straight from your Mac, or drag in audio and video you already have. Memory can capture the microphone, the audio playing on your Mac, or both at once, so a call is recorded as it happens. Transcription starts from the library and runs on your machine.

Does Memory work offline?
Yes, for everything that matters. Recording, import, transcription, search, and your library all work without an internet connection. The first run downloads the transcription model, and speaker separation fetches its model the first time you use it.
Do my recordings leave my Mac?
No. Transcription runs on your machine with Whisper. Your recordings, transcripts, and exports stay on your Mac.
Does it tell speakers apart?
Yes. Once a recording is transcribed, speakers are separated automatically, and you can rename them. Saved highlights keep the speaker, the timestamp, and a link back to the source. If a recording defeats separation, Memory falls back to splitting turns by pauses rather than failing.
How is search different from searching the text?
Memory searches by meaning as well as by wording, so a phrase can find the passage that discussed the same thing in different words. It runs on your Mac and works across English and Russian.
Do I need an AI account or API key?
No. On macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence available, analysis runs through the model built into the system. Nothing is sent to an external provider and there is no key to configure.
Can I legally record conversations?
It depends on where you are and on the situation. Recording laws vary by country and state, and many places require the consent of everyone being recorded. Memory cannot tell you what is lawful in your case; if you are unsure, check your local rules or ask a lawyer before recording.
Does Memory obtain consent for me?
No. Memory has no way to know who is in the room or on the call, so it cannot obtain or verify consent on your behalf. Getting any consent required before you record is your responsibility.
Can I delete recordings permanently?
Yes. Any recording, transcript, or generated content can be deleted from your library at any time, and it is removed from your Mac.
Why does it ask for microphone and screen recording permission?
macOS requires microphone access to record you, and screen recording permission is how the system allows an app to capture the audio playing on your Mac. Both can be revoked at any time in System Settings.
Is Memory available for Windows?
No. Memory is a Mac app, built on AVFoundation and made for macOS.
